These agreements bring the employment relationship, or a workplace dispute, to an end on specific terms – most importantly, the employee’s promise not to bring certain claims against the employer. It’s usually in return for some sort of payment or other benefit passing to the employee.

Our team regularly advises employers on using settlement agreements and on the terms they should contain. There are strict legal rules about how the arrangement should come about and be formalised (not least that the employee must have advice before signing). So we’ll steer you through the issues, making sure that you have in place an agreement which protects you from specific threats and which draws a line under potential future problems.
